Frequently asked questions

Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

No, you can easily purchase tickets at the Visitor Centre on arrival. We also sell tickets online and combination tickets giving admission to the neighbouring museums Fram and Kon-Tiki — perfect for a full day at Bygdøynes. Combination tickets can be purchased at the Visitor Centre. The museum is also included in the Oslo Pass.

How much time should I allow for my visit?

Most visitors spend between 1.5 and 2.5 hours with us. As the museum is located at Bygdøynes alongside the Fram and Kon-Tiki museums, many visitors choose to set aside a full day to explore the whole area.

Is the museum suitable for children?

Yes, absolutely!

In the exhibitions "Explore the Ocean" and "Voyages with the Chief and Sally Jones", children can play and explore magical worlds. Every weekend we offer creative children's workshops at the museum — boat building on Sundays and activity workshops on Saturdays. The activities are suitable for children of different ages and provide an opportunity to explore maritime themes through creative expression. The activities are closed in July, but the exhibitions are open all year.

Is the museum suitable for adults without children?

Absolutely.

The museum offers an in-depth exploration of Norwegian maritime history, world-class marine archaeology, and an extensive collection of maritime art. The architecture and unique setting right by the Oslofjord make it a peaceful and inspiring destination for those with an interest in culture. Throughout the year we also host talks and guided tours.

Do you offer anything for groups?

Yes! The Norwegian Maritime Museum is well suited for families, groups of friends, companies and other groups. We offer engaging and memorable guided tours tailored to the group's interests and needs.

Is there a café at the museum?

Yes, Café Fjord is located at the museum entrance and is open every day during museum opening hours. Here you can relax with a delicious cup of coffee or a cold drink. At the counter you will find a varied selection of open sandwiches, pastries, cakes and ice cream.

In summer, it is also possible to eat packed lunches on the covered Fjord Terrace. Packed food and drinks are not permitted inside our exhibitions.

Where are the toilets and baby changing facilities?
